How To Play Pai Gow

Pai Gow Poker is played with a 53-card deck, consisting of a standard deck plus one wild Joker. Each player receives 7 cards and must split them into two hands:

• The 5-card hand is called the "highest hand".
• The 2-card hand is known as the "second highest".

The game follows traditional poker rankings, including pairs, three-of-a-kind, and straights. The 5-card hand must always be stronger than the 2-card hand. For instance, if a player is dealt Ace + Ace + 9 + 7 + 5 + 4 + 3, they cannot place both Aces in the 2-card hand. The pair of Aces must stay in the 5-card hand.

The objective is to defeat both of the dealer’s hands. If the player wins only one hand, the round results in a push (tie).

• If both hands lose, the dealer wins the bet.
• If both hands win, the player receives even money (1:1 payout), with a 5% commission deducted by the casino.

Pai Gow Poker follows standard rules with a few exceptions:

• Players cannot act as the dealer or play the dragon.
• If a player incorrectly arranges their hands into an invalid "dead hand", they are not penalized—instead, they are prompted to rearrange their cards correctly.
